OK, I realize that not everyone shares exactly the same interests as me and may not want to see my posts about these unshared interests, so I've created this poll to let people choose what they want to see of my LJ on their flist.

There has been an federal indictment in the Myspace suicide case. The interesting thing about the indictment, from my admittedly unlaw-schooled reading of it, is that the defendant is not being charged with culpable homicide or even harassment, but with violation of the Myspace TOS and trespassing onto protected computers (i.e. Myspace servers). The problem being that the victim was also in violation of MySpace ToS by lying about her age to get a Myspace account in the first place.

Now I personally feel that the defendant should be hung by her toes in a cage of scorpions on the side of a volcano that's about to erupt, but that's just my extra-special brand of justice. The courts might not agree with me, though...

While I think it's a good idea to let us flag OUR OWN posts for Adult/Mature/Maybe Inappropriate For Marsupials/whatever, I think it's a colossally BAD idea to let OTHER people flag other people's posts for things like "Offensive Content," "Hate Speech," or "Illegal Activity," which are SO subjective. My occasional snipes at certain aspects of Malaysian society could be construed as hate speech.XD My posts of scanned content could be illegal activity. And we won't even go into what others might consider Offensive that I think is fairly innocuous.

What I'm afraid of is that the second flagging tool might - oh hell, it certainly WILL be used as a weapon, or as a punishment for disagreement with opinions of/by certain quarters. As a more articulate person than I has already commented:
Lots of people have more than one journal, and there seems to be a direct correlation between number of sock[puppet]s and level of crazy.

What I hope is that LJ administrators will become so overwhelmed with arbitrary flag reports that they'll shut down that part of the flagging system.XD

ETA: Someone just thought of a way to get them to pull the function real fast. Quick! Flag every LOLCat post you see!
ETETA: ...I'm only half kidding. That may be the only way for them to see how seriously retarded their new toy is.
